CAYO LARGO WINS MOST SIGNIFICANT BOAT OF 2008

New Orleans, LA -- December 3, 2008 -- M/V Cayo Largo was awarded one of WorkBoat Magazine's 10 most significant vessels of 2008.

Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. developed the performance specifications for the vessel for its long time client, Puerto Rico Maritime Transportation Authority, and then oversaw the acquisition, design and construction of the vessel. The following is excerpted from WorkBoat Magazine,

"The 165'x45' passenger and cargo ferry Cayo Largo left Blount Boats in Warren, R.I., in July for Puerto Rico, where it went into service for the Puerto Rico and Municipal Islands Maritime Transportation Authority.

The Cayo Largo can haul 300 passengers and 300 long tons of cargo on runs to the Puerto Rico islands of Fajardo, Vieques and Culebra.

The ferry’s main engines are four MTU 12V4000 M60 diesels delivering a total of 7,800 hp. The MTUs are hooked up to Twin Disc MG-6848SC marine gears with 2.5:1 reduction ratios that turn 56", 4-bladed propellers.

The Cayo Largo was built to the Coast Guard’s Subchapter K regulations for cargo ferry service. The hull was built to ABS standards."
